Double Faced Carpet Tape-Tear It, Don’t Cut It

double faced carpet tape from thetapeworks.comDouble faced tape used for temporary carpet installation has a vinyl liner on one side so that the tape will spool off the roll.  Without the liner, the tape would bond to itself and be completely unusable.

When using this tape, it is better to tear it than to cut it with a sharp knife of scissors.  By tearing, you create a rough edge which makes it easier to peel the vinyl backing away from the adhesive on the tape.  If you cut the tape and create a crisp edge, it is difficult to grab hold of the liner in order to peel it off.
